STYLE INSPIRATION SERIES: Part 11 of 15

The Big Blue ... Jean that is. A great pair of jeans is a prerequisite for a classic wardrobe.

I don't believe in investing in jeans that have cuts, rips, or oddly placed dyes unless you already own at least a few classic pairs, because overly-trendy jeans look dated after their trend.

I suggest owning two great pairs of classic wash, minimalist jeans and call it a day. Skinny is still the cut du jour after many years but straight cut jeans are also flattering on many.

Invest in timeless pieces, and you’ll never be at a loss for what to wear for whatever occasion and season.

Here are some looks I love! Hoping to inspire you to invest in a good pair of jeans.... bottoms up!

RESPECT YOUR ....

Growing up I was always taught..."Respect your elders"... and "put a coaster down!" Both make sense right? 32 years later this has become ingrained in my DNA.

On a less serious note, why not respect your wood in a very fashionable and organic way. I've become kinda obsessed with natural woods, metals and rock while decorating our apartment. We want to keep our home as comfortable and natural as possible keeping with soothing hues, textures and reclaimed materials. With that in mind, I have fallen kinda head over heels in love with Agate rock. Click here for more info on the agate rock. This rock is just so darn beautiful, right after the diamond of course :)

I am  opposed to buying regular round coasters from Crate and Barrel. I want to throw my glass down on something just as beautiful as the wine I am drinking. Make it an experience all the way around!

Here are some of the agate rock coasters I've fallen in love with.

I will update the post with our final choice.  These range from $20 a set to well over $120. I am still on the look out for the most beautiful and wallet friendly set.

Get Inspired!

JUST HAD TO SHARE....

While sitting in the lecture hall last night waiting for my professor to arrive, my heart and soul sent me email of an article he knew I would enjoy. Its one of those articles that invigorates me and quite simply just make sense. After reading this, I knew I had to share this with you.

12 THINGS SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE DO BEFORE BREAKFAST. Seems so simple. It is, of course, once you get in the habit of it. Here is a quick list of the 12 "things" successful people do before breakfast.

  1. Wake up early
  2. Exercise before it falls off the to-do list
  3. Work on a top priority business project
  4. Work on a personal passion project
  5. Spend quality time with family
  6. Connect with your spouse
  7. Network over coffee
  8. Mediate to clear your mind
  9. Write down things you are grateful for
  10. Plan and strategize while you are fresh
  11. Check your email
  12. Read the news

I encourage you to actually read the full article. Its one of those "ah ha" articles that inspire you to want to do better for yourself. Click here for the article.

LESS IS MORE " my birthday wish"

Personally, an abundance of “stuff” is not what speaks volumes to me... having "a lot of stuff"  does not bring me pleasure. Life isn’t about how many designers are hanging in your closet or the class of car you drive. Life  is not about the size of your home or the size of your bank account ; it is about life's moments that create memories or moments that bring you to your inner peace. (although watching the RHO Beverley Hills can make you think otherwise)

My birthday is coming up this weekend and I've been asked what I want to do. To be honest, this year I want to engage in the simple pleasures I love most. I don't mind doing a dinner and a drink or two, but on my actual birthday which is this Sunday Id like to do my routine. My usual Sunday routine consists of Church, brunch at Le Pain, catching up on a good read and pure lazy relaxation. Life has been crazy the past few months due to the holidays so I haven't had the chance to fully commit to the simple pleasures that Sunday brings me. Its moments like this I love the most, when I am in tune with my mind, body and spirit and feel totally spoiled. Yes, they are all simple pleasures but pleasures that far outweigh any material item. For my birthday I wish, I wish for more time spent on  life's simple pleasures.

Here are some simple pleasures and moments that provide an overwhelming amount of pleasure in my life on every possible level.

Purchasing and arranging seasonal flowers for my home. Flowers in a room can instantly change my mood and dress up any décor.

Cuddling up in my favorite couch blanket and dozing off to sound of a flickering candle

My morning cup of Joe. Just me, my thoughts and preparing for the start of the day. Or savoring a hot cup on the weekend in my favorite lounge wear. *note - I'm a better person with coffee. ask anyone that knows me well. be afraid if you cross my path pre-coffee. ;)

& last but certainly not least.....My favorite simple pleasure. A dinner table surrounded with close friends and family breaking bread together and eating a meal made with love. Nothing brings me back down to earth better than a love fest over a feast of good food, spirits and conversation.

What simple moments bring you the most pleasure?

I hope you enjoy life's simple pleasures and take in the moment. Put your phones down and be present. Or put your phone down and get lost in a good book. Have a beautiful weekend &  I will be back Monday.... one age year later!

LAYER IT UP!

I'm back! & I'm cold! Its around 17 degrees here in NYC and with the wind chill it feels about 10 below. I've missed you so!

As I was layering up this morning I thought why not share a recent obsession of mine with you all. Rug Layering. If you have been following my blog you know we are in the middle of putting our apartment decor together. Yes, I am STILL waiting for Restoration Hardware to deliver a few major pieces & I guess it is kinda premature of me to worry about finishing touches given the fact we haven't received the key pieces yet. But.... I cant wait any longer! I'm all over getting the floor texturized.

Our living room/dining room style is a good mix of Industrial/French meets Scandinavian Chic. Imagine dark greys, heavy metals and reclaimed woods in all colors. We need to bring some more texture and pattern into the space so I'm planning on layering a cowhide rug over a large jute rug.

Here are some of my favorite rug layering looks Id like to share with you:

Here is the Argentinian Brindle Cowhide we already own (we have it under our Colette Bed for now until we decide on the perfect Jute rug for the space).

You can purchase beautiful ones via Wisteria, One Kings Lane, Gilt and even Rugs USA. The one I purchased was a major success due to the fact that it was a steal of a price and has tones of gray tones throughout.

I get it, alot of people hate the cowhide rug but they are extremely durable and beautiful. For us it is the perfect layering piece for texture. Add any color cowhide over a neutral colored Jute rug and voila.... your space is instantly turned chic and unique. Try it! & Don't forget to layer up today.
