A SPECIAL FRIDAY SHARE

via Inslee Hayes - "Lo"

Tomorrow I will be spending the day with one of my closest best friends, Lauren aka Lo. We will be running around NYC trying and deciding on bridesmaid dresses for her upcoming September “Shin dig-Holy Mazel”of a wedding.

One of our many haircolors...

Lauren is marrying the love of her life (Dave) I couldn't be happier for her. This wedding will be one for the books! I am honored to be part of their special day.

Lo and I have a special friendship one that is deep rooted in my family. See… Lauren is best friends with my beautiful cousin and many years back  when we were introduced we instantly bonded. She is my partner in crime, a domestic diva, Brooklyn's red headed stunn(ah), my diamond princess & last but not least an honest “ride or die” loyal as they come friend. I love you girl.

Me, my cousin & Lo

Lauren, you are getting married!!!!! Ah! Of course, in true Lo fashion, we will be capping the day off with a Bubbly Champs French Brunch here in the city. Its the only way to end a special day.

I hope you all enjoy the weekend ahead. Go out and make memories with those you love..... Until Monday!

A 10 MINUTE TIDY

Mornings were rough, especially coming from a once known night owl like myself. I dont know how or when it happened but my mornings became easy for me.

My life at one point was chaos. I was always late, I ate bad, I drank too much, my home wasn't organized and I let my appearances go. Honestly I believe they were all tied together. Today, my life is beautiful.  I believe my life came together when I did on all levels.

These days, I'm up earlier than ever ready to start my day. Maybe its the fuel I put into my body that allows me to wake refreshed. Or the fact I no longer stay out till the wee hours of the morning.  My home is now always organized and my days scheduled.

There is a certain routine I do every morning that gets me ready for the day and feeling good when I come home. Its a little something I call my  "10 minute tidy" This routine helps me tremendously!

If you are an avid reader of my blog, you know that I'm a clean freak. I cant help it, nothing makes me happier and calmer than a clean home.

Here is the simple routine that has helped me.

Let in the Air - The minute I wake up, I open the blankets to the end of the bed and air it out. I open the bedroom windows and spray Dreft Fabric Freshner onto the sheets and pillows.  I also open the windows, not only to air out the apartment but I love the sound of NYC in the morning. I let the bed breathe & air out before I make it.

Shine Time - After my shower and bathroom routine I always wipe down the bathroom. I have windex wipes I keep stored and do a quick once over to remove any finger prints or droplets of water. I wipe down the shower handles, sink chrome, mirror and anything else that reflects. I even take the wipe and do quick swipe of the floor to pick up any lint. I quickly shake the towels out, refold the hand towels and straighten up any product or container out of its original place.

Bits n Pieces - After I finish blowing out my hair and my velcro curlers are set in place, I make the bed. It allows me to multi task. I place the glasses from our bedside tables into the dishwasher, wipe the kitchen sink down and start the dishwasher (if needed). I always stop into the Living Room, fluff the pillows, organize the magazines and put the remotes away (if the Mr. was up late the night before).

& finally a last Look & Go. I give my home a quick once over, spray room freshener and I'm out.

Sure, if you have children, a home with a significant amount of square feet or are running around in the morning this may not work for you, but if you get up 10 minutes early you will have the time to do some of these things.

Doing such small tasks in the morning mentally prepare me for the day. I feel productive even before I get to the office. Having tidied up my home, I am able to focus on things that actually relate to my success rather than wasting time on things that do not really matter on returning to my home at the end of the day.

The important thing to remember here is that keeping your house tidy is an ongoing process - it's going to need work every day. But with these 4 ideas, the work won't be difficult or time consuming, you can just cruise through on auto pilot in the morning and make it routine.

Try it out and let me know what little tidy up routines you do in the morning.

COUCH CHAT UPDATE

Last week I posted on the couch we chose from Restoration Hardware.  & here is the couch in our living room!  (measurements 110"W x 70"D x 34"H)

We chose the Maxwell Sectional in their ARMY DUCK Fabric in the color Fog. These couches are customizable to size, color and fabric. They are the deepest set couches I have ever been on. We also have the The Faux Fur collection in Wolf for both the pillows and the over sized throw blanket. This couch did take a long time to make but totally well worth the wait.

Other Restoration Hardware pieces shown above: The Salvaged Boatwood Coffee table, Riveted Mesh Lamp, Industrial Tool Chest (as side table) and our Cow Hide Rug (which has finally found its resting place under the coffee table) We have the exact  lamp and tool chest side table coming to us but wanted to show what we have done thus far.

TIP: If you are a fan of Restoration Hardware, do your research and find out when their friends and family sales are.  Also, find your nearest RH outlet to pick up pieces at a fraction of the price. Shop smart, always!

MIND YOUR "MONDAY" MANNERS!

Have you ever visited a home where you weren't offered even so much as a glass of water?

This past weekend between studying, cleaning & cooking we had our dear friends Lauren and Dave stop over for an hour to visit with us and see our new digs. I, for the most part, make it a point to be as gracious as possible but failed this weekend. Hey, Im only human! With the busy weekend we had forgot to put out a snack for our visitors. Don’t worry, we provided beverages. 1 point for us!

I don't know about you, but when I have guests visit my home I like to make sure that I make them feel as comfortable as possible. We always offer a beverage and have a plate of snacks to choose from. But how did I forget? I think the excitement of having them over and jumping into our conversation side tracked us. Tsk tsk.

I figured this is the best time to blog on the above and keep this as a personal reminder to step up my hostess game.

Here are 2 basic tips when having guests come over for a causal visit.

1. Greet, Ask & Offer. As soon as the guests arrive, greet your guests with a smile, ask for their coat and offer a beverage. Wham Bam. The 3 Hostess with the Mostess rules. Remember these 3 and you will be good.

2. Always be prepared. Stock up! Try to keep some snacks stocked in the pantry that you enjoy and most people like. Pretzels, Tortilla chips and salsa, crackers and cheese, and even fresh fruit. Doing so takes the guess work out and leaves you one less trip spent frantic running to the grocery store. Plate the food where you will be catching up and put out napkins, coasters and small appetizer plates.

If you follow these 2 steps, I can guarantee this will prevent any embarrassment after the fact.

I'd love for you to share your thoughts and any tips you have when it comes to having guests stop over for a casual visit.
