YOU SNOOZE YOU LOSE



Instead of hitting  the snooze button in the morning, try taking a few minutes every morning to activate your body in many senses and get the blood flowing. Try these stretches and have a healthier start to your morning. (repeat 2x's)


The Hippie

Pretend your head weighs 500 pounds, and let it pull you down. Bend one knee and hold for 15 seconds, then change legs.

The Pecs Flex

As you lift your hands as high as possible, squeeze your shoulder blades together and open your chest.





The Leaning Tower

Try to elongate your body by creating the greatest amount of distance possible between your left pinkie and your left heel. Hold for 15 seconds, then switch sides.

WHY NOT MAKE YOUR OWN PROTEIN BARS?



Protein Bars

1/3 cup of raw walnuts
2/3 cup pitted dates
1 1/2 cup oats
2 scoops vanilla protein powder ( I used Sun Warrior)
2 tbsp Flaxseeds
1/4 cup melted coconut oil
1/3 cup nut butter OR Almond Butter
3 tbsp water
1/2 cup dark chocolate

Pulse walnuts and dates in a food processor until a crumbled, sticky mixture. Put that mixture along with the rest of the ingredients into a large bowl or mixer and combine well. The mixture will be wet and sticky.

Line a 8×8 pan with parchment paper or foil.  Press firmly into the pan

Melt chocolate and nut butter in a microwave safe bowl. Use the defrost option and stir every 20 seconds until smooth. Spread chocolate and nut butter over the oat mixture and pop into the fridge to set for at least 2 hours

 & lastly......ENJOY!

At this point in my life, it wouldn’t be a weekend without some sort of wedding festivity in my life.

The joy and happiness of sharing this time with Michelle is priceless..... Michelle will be marrying the man of her dreams this weekend at one of the most beautiful places in New York City. This wedding will truly be one for the books.... (Pics to follow the wedding)

Our friendship throughout the years has blossomed in so many ways. She is the first to call me in the morning and always makes me laugh with her "isims".  Our ups are high and are lows are few. Her laugh is contagious and just being with her makes my day better.  A heart full of gold. & Finally.... a sister my height ;)

MOTHER NATURE



Almost all of us have been awestruck at one time or another by nature and its beauty. So why not spend more time outside? 


Being outdoors and aware of the natural beauty that the world has instantly makes you feel energized and alive. More and more research has focused on the “nature connection” and the affects on our overall well being.


Nature has natural healing powers. It seems that just being outside along with nature does your body, mind and soul good. According to a 2009 study published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, the closer you live to nature, the healthier you're likely to be. The study found that people who lived within 1 kilometer of a park or a wooded area experienced less anxiety and depression than those who lived farther away from green space.

For city dwellers, there is a higher prevalence of anxiety and depression disorders. Not near any parks, don’t worry! Another study done by researchers in England and Sweden have found that joggers who exercise in a natural green setting with trees, foliage and landscape views, feel more restored, and less anxious, angry and depressed than those runners who burn the same amount of calories in gyms. So even if you have to drive a few miles to find a little green, it's worth it! Do as Nike says and “Just do it”~!





Being outside gives us a break of the fast paced, technology driven world in which we live in. When we spend time outside we have a clearer more focused mindset to enjoy our friends or quiet time. For me, being outside is my “me” time, it allows me to turn off my mind, worries, and provides me with a reset button for the week.

How much time outside is needed? Researchers say “not much” to feel the effects. So…. What are you waiting for?! Get outside!

Here are some ways you can incorporate more of your life outdoors and enjoy the health benefits of nature:

  1. Make It a ritual (like I do) Either a morning or evening run everyday.
  2. Garden if you can……
  3. Book a vacation in a beautiful natural setting or visit a local park or beach.
  4. Eat one of your meals outside. Bring your breakfast out on the poorch and take in the fresh air, or have your lunch on a bench outside.
  5.  Commit to spending time outdoors, rain, snow or shine. Dress properly for the weather and prepare for your time outside. No excuses.
 
So the next time you have the opportunity to get outside for a brisk walk or a workout, take the chance to soak in that Mother Nature!

RECAP



Just a quick recap.....





To sum the weekend up in one word, I will have to say , it was PERFECT! Friday night I attended an engagement party in the Atrium Room at the Madison Hotel – a gorgeous room lite with opulent chandeliers and trees overgrow framing the ceiling.

Mothers Day was beyond special for both me and my stepmother and we ended the celebration sharing a piece of red velvet cake (once a month treat). To die!

Brunch was just what I needed to start the day and I also got to spend a few hours in Central Park near Turtle Pond (my weekend ritual). It was bustling with families, picnics, music and food. I ended the weekend seeing The Great Gatsby in 3D. Highly recommend the movie and book, I will be ordering the soundtrack it was incredible. & those dresses and suits!  A must see.

I hope you enjoyed this special weekend with your loved ones. Lets start the week off right and remember to choose a healthier option or version of your meals. Lace up your gym sneakers and schedule time to workout outside.
