FRIDAY

Another Friday has sneaked up upon us and I cant wait for the weekend to begin. Saturday will be spent with my beautiful newborn niece followed by my cousins college graduation. So proud of you Francesca!!!!

Sunday we have our usual routine followed by a night out listening to soulful house music at an underground spot here in NYC. Its far from the days of dancing on tables -  this place is for the grown and sexy to enjoy music.
Listen to the video below and let the music transport you...

ART IT UP ART IT UP

I first came across photography work by Vincent Laforet on an Art Website and I instantly fell in love. Fast forward to 2 weeks later, I had two of his NYC pieces hanging in my living room. ( See below)

Vincent Laforet is a Pulitzer Prize winning photojournalist who was employed by the New York Times for many years, known for shooting gorgeous  unobstructed aerial views.

Words by Vincent: I think it’s always important to take a step back in life. That’s one of the main reasons I love aerials and shooting from high elevations – you can appreciate the third dimension in a way that you very seldom have a chance to experience it. Images of people, cities and landscapes from the air tell a unique story about our personal space and how we relate to one another.

UPDATE

A few days ago I posted on an all natural hair treatment using Almond Oil & Peppermint Oil. Well, I have to tell you I LOVE IT!

Ok, obviously its way too soon to tell if it will make my hair grow longer and thicker but the results I received with just one use already has me hooked. Peppermint Oil is said to balance the PH in your hair and make it less oily. Truth be told, that is just it! My blowout lasted longer and I didn't have to use as much Dry Shampoo. Hooked. Round 2 tonite!

WEDNESDAY WORDS......

A LITTLE BIT OF THIS & .....

With work, school, blogging, apartment shopping for my move, weddings, babies, engagements etc. life has been great. Ive also been able to finally catch up on some of my own personal interests, finds, and to-do's....

- Ive been impressed with JCPenney lately. Yes, Yes... I know what you are thinking but have you recently seen their latest collabo's with Jonathan Adler? If not, check out a few of my favorite finds Book Ends/Frame/Pillows & Window Treatments.

-On Repeat...Loving this song! Her voice is beautiful and the lyrics, oh the lyrics!

-Contemplating going a few shades lighter for summer (kinda like a Sheryl Crow'esq color)

- In the process of mastering the perfect egg white muffin - loaded with jalapenos fresh herbs and peppers (just a touch of oats for more substance) - Recipe to follow in a later post.

- Thinking of some fun ways to make my Poppa dukes feel special on Father's Day (post to follow) I love that man so much!

-Feeling like I started June a step behind with an overflowing inbox and ever growing to-do list. Anyone else feeling a little cramped for time? Finally checking off one item at a time! Feels good :)

-Stalking photos of Lisa Salzer  (founder and designer of LULU FROST) lovely apartment on The Glitter Guide . Lots of styling inspiration for my new digs!

What have you been up to lately?

HAD TO SHARE....

Remember when you could sip on a glass of coconut champagne at a sidewalk bar in New York City -- and it only cost you 5 cents?

Neither do I, but I bet it was pretty incredible....

Turn the volume up, the music is just as good.....

The recently released footage shows men hanging their arms out the open windows of elevated trains, street vendors hawking potatoes in wooden crates for 2 cents per pound and women relaxing in lounge chairs on the deck of Rockefeller Center.

This footage is part of a longer film shot by Jean Vivier, a French tourist who sailed from Marseille to New York on
the SS Normandie. Hope you Enjoy!

HAIR TALES

If its natural and void of chemicals count this chick in!

ALMOND AND PEPPERMINT OIL TREATMENT for healthier hair....

The use of almond oil for hair growth has been popular since ancient Egypt when it was commonly mixed with castor oil and applied to the hair to create a smooth, shiny appearance and lock moisture in the hot climate. As of 2013, almond oil is still used and found in many hair growth products. It is considered a preferred all-natural tool for hair re-growth by many.  Worth a try!

Peppermint Oil
Although peppermint oil has a cooling, tingling effect when massaged onto the scalp, rest assured the oil is hard at work balancing the PH levels of your scalp to help put a stop to oily hair. Peppermint oil is actually an astringent which normalizes your scalp's oil production. An oily scalp produces excess oil which is then distributed throughout the hair; that creates greasy, oiled hair. Peppermint oil eliminates this problem and makes the appearance of greasy, flat hair a thing of the past.

PLUS - The tingling sensation mentioned above not only evens the playing field of the PH balance of your scalp, but it also stimulates your hair follicles and promotes hair growth. THE PLUS PLUS? The smell…ahhh the sweet cool smell!

***Considerations***: Please dilute the peppermint oil before you apply it to your scalp because it is quite potent. Rule of thumb, you will want about 4 drops of peppermint oil to every cup of water OR doubled up carrier oil. See instructions below.

HOW TO
Add into a spray bottle the following:
3 - 5 Tbsp of Almond Oil  & roughly 4-5 drops of Peppermint Oil
Twice a week apply a few sprays to your scalp and massage in. Comb the oils through the hair with a wide toothed comb and  leave it on overnight.

These oils are natural with no side effects. If you want to save your mullah$$, cut back spending on tons of hair products to bring out the natural beauty of hair and use natural treatments.

Lastly  - Consider your diet. Dry hair can be an indication of a poor diet or even mild dehydration. So drink up! WATER ALL DAY WATER ALL NIGHT. Make sure you eat a balanced diet of good proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. Vitamin and mineral supplements (e.g., vitamins A,C,E, and calcium) are good for treating dry hair, also.

If you couple natural hair care treatments with good eating habits, you will be rewarded with healthy hair. Try it and let me know how you like it!

STYLE INSPIRATION SERIES: PART 4

This item is a fresh spin on the classic skirt, to me it’s the new mini skirt….. The Pencil Skirt. An item to dress up or dress down.

We usually associate the pencil skirt with the corporate office suit, but try to embrace it and visualize the more feminine polished silhouette in an edgier light…. The Pencil looks great in the office, but looks worlds better with a slouchy tee or a leather bomber.

Invest in a flattering skirt silhouette. This skirt works on most body types (if you are a pear shape, look for ones that hit above the knee rather than cut off your leg line at the calf)

Think outside the black skirt box and go for interesting textures, prints or even leather for the confident. There are no rules when wearing a pencil skirt other than rocking them with a great pair of pointed pumps or ankle strapped heels to elongate your stems.

Invest in timeless pieces, and you’ll never be at a loss for what to wear for whatever occasion and season.

The proof is all right here..Here are some ways I wear the pencil skirt.

Wear it with a peplum hem....adorable!
